Ultrasonic welding and cutting for fabric materials

For the production of respiratory masks (surgical, thermoformed, FFP2, FFP3, N95 and KN95), SONIMAT provides ultrasonic solutions for cutting and welding intermittently or continuously at high speed. The main advantages of ultrasonic welding and cutting of non-woven products are an high level of precision, high quality, but also an increase in productivity thanks to the removal of additional components (glue, staples, etc.). Welds: A Favorite Topic – Article by Jack Champaigne

Regarding Shot Peening, Jack Champaigne is a recognized expert in this field and also has done extensive work with standardization processes in the SAE.

In the latest issue of The Shot Peener Magazine, Mr. Champaigne discusses his meetings with Dr Robert J. Connor from Purdue University and with Julien Jeanneau, COO of Empowering Technologies Inc.

Professor Robert Conner is one the the authors of “Fatigue Life Improvement of Welded Girders with Ultrasonic Impact Treatment” (to be found here) and Julien Jeanneau loaned the equipment for Needle Peening to Purdue. The long-term study led to prove that equipment manufactured by Empowering Technologies is accepted as a reliable option for UIT application. AASHTO LRFD Bridge Construction Specifications” was modified as such in the 2020 Interim Revisions released in September of 2019.

Recent update of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Construction Specifications

In the United States of America many welded components on existing bridges are prone to fatigue failure. The US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) estimates that $76 billion is necessary to repair deficient bridges throughout the country.

Research conducted by Purdue University in 2018 has shown that Ultrasonic impact treatment is a highly effective technique for increasing the fatigue life of welded girders.

The study was recently extended to prove that equipment manufactured by Empowering Technologies is accepted as a reliable option for UIT application. The “AASHTO LRFD Bridge Construction Specifications” was modified as such in the 2020 Interim Revisions released in September of 2019.
